58. By molecular mechanics calculations in vacuum at 0 K angles varying from 28 to 43○ were found for the derivatives 6a-f corresponding to enhancements factors of 1.2 to 0.6.
59. -48 esu for 9a and 9d, respectively. Since they used a different experimental configuration and a different fundamental wavelength both compounds were remeasured to allow good comparison.
60. This is the averaged angle of the four angles of the four chromophoric units with the dipole axis of the molecule which is insensitive for pinched-cone to pinched-cone conformational motions.
