    • In addition, the secular Turkish business sector seems to have suggested the promotion of religion. One leading businessman, Vehbi Koc, in a letter he submitted to then-president Kenan Evren on 12 October, 1980, proposed that ‘a nation with no religion is not possible. This time religious affairs should be regulated in such a way as not to allow the political parties to exploit it’.
