An excellent review of 95 patients diagnosed and treated over a 35-year period. Emphasizes the need for detection of early-stags disease combined with complete surgical excision. This practice will provide the patient with the best chance of locoregional control and long-term survival.

    • Multivariate survival analysis of 128 cases of oral cavity minor salivary gland carcinomas
    • Lopes MA, Santos GC, Kowalski LP: Multivariate survival analysis of 128 cases of oral cavity minor salivary gland carcinomas. Head Neck 1998, 20:699-706. This is a review of oral cavity malignant salivary tumors with emphasis on patient survival. Wide surgery excision was performed in 91 patients (71,1%), and 17 patients underwent neck dissection jointly with primary tumor resection. Adjuvant radiotherapy was administered with surgery to 32 patients (25%), mainly due to close or involved surgical margins or metastatic lymph nodes. Five-year survival rates were 85.9% and 87.7% respectively in the groups of patients treated by surgery or combined therapy.
