    • The expectation value d=1/4 for half filling and U=0 can be determined by symmetry arguments. The transformation that changes the sign of U in the Hubbard model transforms each component of the ground state (assuming that it can be degenerate) into another component in which all singly occupied sites are changed into doublons and holes and vice versa. Thus, the sum of the expectation value of the number of holes and doublons per site is 1/2 and then, at half filling both averages are equal.
