    • note
    • The terminology may be somewhat misleading. The notion of "binding energy", "exciton" and "Bohr radius" should be used with some care. In a ring all states are discrete, i.e. they are all bound states with a finite extension. In addition, the form of the Coulomb interaction matrix element in a nanoring takes care of the ring geometry, and it differs therefore from that in a one-dimensional chain. Nevertheless we will use these notions, since - similar to the bulk situation - the interaction lowers the transition energies at the absorption edge with respect to the noninteracting case. In the here adopted terminology, "binding energy" just means the energetic difference between the lowest absorption peaks calculated with and without interaction.
