    • A recent report on the reaction of lithium dihydroanthracenyl cuprate with (+)-2-iodooctane states that substitution occurs with inversion of configuration at carbon, see E. Hebert, Tetrahedron Letters 415 (1982). Although the yield in the reaction is low (20%), the product 9-(2-octyl)-10,dihydroanthracene has been isolated with 54% ee, which corresponds to 68-70% inversion. This result appears to be contrary to our findings; it has been reported that allyl- and benzyllithium to proceed with inversion on secondary halides. See, Wiley, New York
