    • (private communication). Recent measurements, using a Corbino geometry, have given a larger absolute value of the dc conductivity σxx at ν = 1/2 than the earlier estimates used in an earlier version of our paper. Experimental values of σxx(q)obtained from the surface acoustic wave data have been similarly revised.

    • A formal diagrammatic expression in powers of the gauge coupling constant φ tilde and the interaction v (q) may be defined for our system, and calculational rules may be specified, as for the anyon problem discussed in Ref. 40. Here, however, we shall consider only relatively low-order diagrams, so that a full specification of the calculational rules is not needed.

    • Our definition has been chosen so that σij( q vec , ω ) is finite in the limit ω -> 0, for any fixed value at q vec, at least in the case of a conventional metal. However, we cannot necessarily identify this limiting value with the low-frequency conductivity σij( q vec ) which determines the surfaces acoustic wave anomaly, because we find, at least in the case Δ B != 0, that there can be structure in σij( q vec , ω ) at a very low frequency ω approx ωmin( q vec ), which we discuss below.
