The excited-state features for this compound were also examined by singular-valued decomposition (SVD). This matrix method of processing data generates a basis set of trial spectra, temporal profiles, and eigenvalues (weighting factors) to reconstruct kinetic data. It is useful in identifying hidden spectral features which may be overlooked in doing the more conventional, single-wavelength kinetic trace. SVD analysis showed that all of the temporal characteristics of the transient decay, i.e., the biphasic nature of the decay, is accounted for by the single absorption spectrum. For more on SVD, see, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of California, San Diego
