    • The conduction-electron polarization parameter (Formula presented) for SmCd was estimated before by Stewart et al. (Ref. 5) to be -0.04, a considerably different value from ours, through the analysis of the susceptibility neglecting the crystal fields and the thermal populations of the excited J multiplets. The discrepancy even of the sign may be due to the fact that the formula of the effective Curie constant they used in determining the value is in a perfect square form with respect to (Formula presented) They might take the other solution.
