    • 18a indicates that the planar inversion pathway has preference over the rotational option. We speculate that the N-sulfmimines from ketones have higher ground-state energies than N-sulfmimines derived from aldehydes. Therefore, it seems reasonable that the E- to Z-activation energies would be higher for the latter, assuming similar transition state energies.
