The operating mode of the SPCM results in a certain amount of extraneous pulses originating from dark counts and afterpulsing. The dark count rate of our module is less than 100 (Formula presented). This gives on average (Formula presented) during a single counting interval, which is 30 (Formula presented)s long. The typical afterpulsing probability is (Formula presented). Thus, both of these effects give a negligible contribution to the measured count statistics
