    • Some authors make a distinction between the diffusion of a simple interstitial and the more complex split and bond-centered interstitials, which they call interstitialcies. However, as Refs. 2 and 3 showed, single extra Si atoms diffuse in the Si network by constantly interconverting between ``simple'' and ``interstitialcy'' configurations. The distinction between the two mechanisms is thus unwarranted.
