    • A very recent experiment [C. C. Tsuei, J. R. Kirtley, Z. F. Ren, J. H. Wang, H. Raffy, and Z. Z. Li, Nature (London) 55, 481 (1997)] raises more questions. Indeed at a macroscopic level the sample as a whole has a symmetry axis, and the result of the experiment implies that the tetragonal symmetry is broken. However, it is clear that this symmetry is not satisfied at a mesoscopic level since the grain boundaries in the sample are not homogeneous and in particular not symmetrical. Therefore the interpretation is far from obvious. In particular the conclusion that the order parameter is a pure (Formula presented)-wave order parameter seems to be contradicted by Raman experiments (Ref. 56) and disagrees with Raman experiments on HBCCO (if it is assumed that the order parameter is the same as in TBCCO).
