    • An overestimation of the total carbon content detrimental to the other elements was found by XPS. Comparison between surface and bulk analyses frequently reveals such a difference. XPS gives only semi-quantitative data with a higher uncertainty (10-20%) that accounts for side-effects, e.g., inappropriate sensitivity factors or preferential ion sputtering.
