    • To our knowledge, studies of the Faraday instability have not revealed convection in the bulk; the instability is thought to involve only the surface of the fluid. We expect that the parameter range that applies to the Faraday instability would be inappropriate for the phenomenon described here.

As it turns out, our results are largely independent of the boundary condition at top and bottom walls. So we take this lower region to be part of the bulk granular bed.
