This value of (Formula presented) represents an upper bound for the average kinetic coefficient, knowing that the recoil of the front along the temperature gradient due to kinetic effects is not observable experimentally. As the shape of the α vs (Formula presented) master curve is essentially independent of (Formula presented) the determination of its precise value is not central for the present purpose. It is only worth noting that the relatively high value of the ratio (Formula presented) signals that we are well in the kinetic regime

A closely related situation has been investigated in a recent article by R. Kupferman and D. H. Kessler [Phys. Rev. E 51, R20 (1995)]. However, they imposed α to be equal to (Formula presented) Accordingly, they found stable tilted arrays of dendrites only for Péclet numbers higher than about 10 (their definition of (Formula presented) is equal to (Formula presented) times ours), which is compatible with our results.PLEEE8
