    • One would expect that if orthometalation takes place via an electrophilic pathway, the reaction should proceed more readily for these cationic derivatives in view of the more positive character of the metal center. The fact that this is not the case is probably due to the relatively strong Pt-N bonds in the cationic complexes as compared to the relatively weak M-N bonds in 2 and 3.
