M. Brune, E. Hagley, J. Dreyer, X. Maître, A. Maali, C. Wunderlich, J. M. Raimond and S. Haroche, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 4887 (1996). The authors report a detection efficiency of about 40%. For the experiment proposed here the detection efficiency is unimportant because runs in which no atom is detected are discarded. High detection efficiency simply reduces the overall running time of the experiment.
