14. There are a number of approximations made in this type of treatment. The energies of bonds that are not directly involved in the reaction are assumed to remain constant, and no account of the Pt(IV)-Pt(II) promotional energy is made. Note that in the present case it is necessary to assume that the remaining Pt-C, Pt-N, and Pt-I bond dissociation energies are the same as in the Pt(IV) precursors and that the heats of sublimation of precursor and product are the same.
