    • In the limit of strong fields such that χ2> γ3 and χ1> γ2, the population of level 2 is maximized by choosing a detuning Δ1= +- χ2/2 to compensate for the ac Stark effect. Note, however, that in the ``pi'' pulse problem, in the same limit, the population ρ22 is negligibly small independent of the detuning Δ1. Also, for these relations among the parameters, the conditions for the Zeno effect resulting from intermittent measurements are still satisfied.
