    • One has to keep in mind that for symmetric quantum wells the expectation value of the electric field is zero and, therefore, the spin-orbit term does not contribute to a spin splitting. By studying symmetric and asymmetric structures of the same semiconductor materials it should be possible to discriminate between contributions to spin splitting from the k3 and the spin-orbit terms.
