    • In developing shear flows, the energy of the turbulent fluctuations and the integral length scale grow in the downstream direction. The transient regimes of the solutions of Eqs. 1 and 2 are expected to describe some aspects of this flow [c17 c18–c19].

    • The anisotropy tensor uij≡〈uiuj〉/〈u→ 2〉-δij/3 is found to be roughly constant for 2600≲Re≲11 300: u11≈0.22, u22≈-0.12, u33≈-0.10, u12≈-0.14, and u13=u23=0. The values of uij depend on the aspect ratio of the system, contrary to the small scale quantities, such as s(ωz), as we have checked at low resolution.
