Owing to the need to section the samples for parallel XPS and PL studies, as well as incompatible sample introduction mechanisms in the passivtion and XPS chambers, construction of a mobile vacuum transfer chamber was problematic. Limiting the exposure to several seconds by the use of a vacuum desiccator did not produce a measurable difference in the spectra.
