note
-
A cubic structure was reported as consistent with EXAFS results, although subsequent simulation of EXAFS spectra for Au25 showed little difference between icosahedral and cuboctahedral structures, in the range k = 100 nirr1. X-ray powder diffraction studies4 suggest an icosahedral structure for Au particles in this size range.

Debye functions of icosahedra exhibit a small intermediate peak between 4.5 and 6.5 nm (compare Figure 1). This peak, however, cancels out for an assembly of icosahedra of different sizes

The microstrains are both compressive and expansive, e; represents the root mean square strain averaged for the specific M/-netplanes over all crystallites, thus producing a symmetric broadening of the respective (/lit/) powder reflection.
