Even a 1.6-mm-thick MgO crucible does not seem as strong as a PBN crucible with a typical thickness of 0.9 mm. Increase of the wall thickness would cause the Co metal to be thermally isolated from the heater, and the temperature deviation would be enhanced between the source and the thermocouple attached to the bottom of the PBN crucible. Then evaporation rate control would become difficult.
