    • Based on Ref. 26, the phase modulation may play a role, in addition to the effects discussed in the body of the paper, in causing the observed minimum in the modulation amplitude near 0.75 T. In this NSN regime, the modulation is not of an ordinary Josephson current, but rather of the effective Andreev conductances, as enhanced by multiple phase-coherent tunneling processes. Such effects have been observed and discussed by H. Pothier, S. Guéron, D. Esteve, and M. H. Devoret [Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, 2488 (1994)], who used a sample with a much larger enclosed area (13 μ(Formula presented)), which led to modulation effects at much lower fields (period ∼2 G).
