    • Anomeric configuration is readily assigned in each case by NOE difference spectroscopy and by inspection of the 1,2-coupling constant. It is confirmed, with the exception of 6, which gave only the β-mannoside, in each case by simple application of Hudson's isorotation rule in which β-mannosides are predicted to have less positive/more negative specific rotations than their α-anomers.
