    • The reasoning is as follows: If two parallel reactions with different activation energies are to compete at a specific temperature, then the preexponential factor of the one with high activation energy has to be large and the preexponential factor of the reaction with the low activation energy has to be small. When the temperature is changed, the two rate constants diverge according to the activation energies. Large preexponential factors, however, mean large positive entropy effects.
