    • The idea that a reduction of the number of active sites may lead to oscillations can also be found in various other models of CO oxidation. Depending on the model the reduction is caused by unreactive CO, by sub-surface oxygen, or by formation of carbon (see pp. 280-301 of Ref. 1). A very important difference with our system is that by externally introducing an adsorbate one can control the oscillations.
