39. The wiping was performed to remove some spots which appeared where drops of the solvent, used for rinsing, had evaporated. Most probably these spots arise from material present in the solution, such as siloxane polymers resulting from solution polycondensation. In the case of the azide formation wiping was also necessary to remove sodium azide, which is present as a solid in the supersaturated solution.
