22. Ringsdorf et al. have synthesized polymeric thiolipid derivatives containing the cholesteryl moiety, which we used for some preliminary experiments in our laboratory. To the best of our knowledge no data have been published concerning these compounds.

24. The use of elevated temperatures during evaporation has been shown to yield smoother gold surfaces, presumably due to an annealing process which occurs on account of the increased surface mobility of the gold atoms upon contact.
