One motivation for the inclusion of a color octet (Formula presented) as messenger field is that in the (Formula presented) version of the model it can lead to gauge coupling constant unification with a low-(Formula presented) scale if in addition to the color-octet field the model contains two bidoublets φ(2,2,0), a pair of (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) with quantum numbers (1,3,±2), and a (Formula presented)-neutral SU(2)(Formula presented) triplet field ∑(3,1,0). The particle spectrum of the model is not left-right symmetric [although the gauge symmetry consists of both SU(2)(Formula presented) groups] due to broken (Formula presented) parity at the grand unified theory (GUT) scale
