Different geometries can therefore be distinguished by the positions of the hydrogen atoms: cis-cis for all hydrogens at the same side of the carbon chain, cis-trans for 2 adjacent hydrogens at the same side and 1 hydrogen at the opposite side, and trans-trans for alternating positions.
