A. Buchel and J. P. Sethna, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 1520 (1996). Here, calculating the imaginary part of the free energy, we incorrectly found the contribution from the zero-restoring-force modes. Because straight cuts tilted by θ and π + θ with respect to, say, the X axis, are identical, the correct contribution from rotations should be π, rather than 2 π. This constant does not change the other results of the paper.

n corrections to the stress fields near the crack tips. Hodgdon and Sethna [27] found that only half integer corrections are needed to describe the influence of the nonlinear zone. Hui and Ruina used an overcomplete set of functions to describe the angular dependence of the stress fields.
