3 concentrations were highest during the estrogen-only phase of HRT and lost the observed significance during the estrogen-progesterone phase of HRT. These results suggest that chronic estrogen therapy increases NO synthesis and that progesterone antagonizes this effect.

Two populations of the estrogen receptor separated and characterized using aqueous two-phase partitioning
-
Fritsch M, Anderson I, Leary CM, Gorski J: Two populations of the estrogen receptor separated and characterized using aqueous two-phase partitioning. Biochemistry 1997, 6:6230-6242. Reports that two populations of estrogen receptors can be found in the rat uterus. One is the unoccupied cytosolic estrogen receptor and the second is formed following estrogen binding or heating the first one to 30° C. It is not clear how these estrogen receptors differ functionally.
