    • Typical anvil flats diameters used for pressures in the 100 GPa region are about 0.3 mm and ∼0.05 mm for P>200 GPa. A beveled culet tip is often employed.

    • Cocking and concentricity adjustments of the anvils are easily followed with a microscope. Parallelism is achieved by minimizing the optical interference fringes while viewing both culet peripheries allows sensitive lateral adjustment.

    • A total pressure of ∼15 GPa at the culet flat is required to achieve an indented gasket thickness of ∼60 μm. During the process of gasket indentation, the anvils are checked for concentricity and parallelism each time the cell is opened, and adjustments are made, if necessary.
