Here we are using a general theorem, that if the integral over a closed manifold of a local function of a field and its derivatives vanishes for all such fields, then the integrand must be a derivative of another local function of the field and field derivatives. Since we do not know where this theorem is to be found in the mathematical literature, we have proven it by direct construction of the latter function.
