    • Since the z^ component of the total spin is a good quantum number, for an isolated Skyrmion 〈Sz〉 is an integer in the exact many-body ground state. The Hartree-Fock estimate is a continuous function of system parameters and applies unless kBT is smaller than energetic separation between single-Skyrmion states with adjacent values of 〈Sz〉. For typical systems we do not expect the discreteness of the allowed values for 〈Sz〉 to be observable above ∼1 K. In the Skyrme crystal Skyrmion-Skyrmion interactions will cause 〈Sz〉 to fluctuate on each site even at T=0.

    • By comparing energies, we know that for gμBB=0.015e2/ℓ the Laughlin fluid states at ν=2/3 and ν=4/3 are lower in energy than the SLA Skyrme crystal. For ν=4/5 and ν=6/5, the SLA Skyrme crystal has lower energy than the Laughlin states. This, however, does not exclude the possibility of an unpolarized Laughlin liquid or a Skyrme liquid state at these filling factors.
