    • A reviewer pointed out that it is also assumed that the same π-complex is attacked regardless of nucleophile. Certainly methanol and water are so similar that this assumption must be valid. Also there appears to be no reason coordinated hydroxide or methoxide would add to a different π-complex than coordinated phenyl.
