22. For large (Formula presented) the large-(Formula presented) Hubbard ladder maps onto a (Formula presented) ladder with (Formula presented) However, in that case (Formula presented) is also big. Then, at least for sufficiently large (Formula presented) a single rung would not necessarily be occupied by a singlet as in Fig. 11, but either be doubly occupied (singlet) or be occupied by a single electron, of spin up or down (doublet). This then is a spin-(Formula presented) Luttinger liquid (with (Formula presented) upon approaching the insulating state). In the present context, the large-(Formula presented) model is not meant as a physically particularly relevant model, but rather as a solvable case allowing (Formula presented) to be determined close to half-filling.
