    • Recent data of Yoshikawa and co-workers (Tsukihara, et al. Science 1996, 272, 1136-1144) on the whole crystal structure of cytochrome c oxidase shows that the constituent lipids are aligned along the hydrophobic patches on the membrane surface of the protein, as would be expected if these lipids are in a bilayer. This arrangement of the lipid molecules is very likely to serve as the initiation points for vesicle formation under reconstitution conditions.
