    • In DNA, the base pairing will be affected by solvent effects. Polar solvents are known to reduce the absolute strength of the pairing of all H-bonded base pairs. However, once again, since metalation in our case does not change the total charge of the system, the solvent effects should not reverse any of the relative trends obtained by the calculations. Another contribution which obviously could influence the stability of the mispairs in DNA (and could not be included in the present study) is the bases stacking.
