-1. This raises the barrier to rearrangement of singlet phenylnitrene to 6 kcal/mol upon reanalysis of the data. Slow ISC of singlet phenylnitrene, relative to phenylcarbene, is a consequence of a large singlet-triplet gap of the nitrene and the fact that the singlet nitrene has an open shell configuration (ref 7).
