note
-
We are dealing with macroscopic (hydrodynamic) length scales on which the interfaces can be modeled as geometric surfaces of zero thickness, and the contact angle is the angle used as a boundary condition for the partial differential equation describing the shape of the How domain. One can find a discussion on different definitions of the contact angle in Sec. VI of Ref. 7.

D to change. Indeed, the bulk stress, if integrable, produces no force while acting on a line. On the other hand, if some nonhydrodynamic forces come into play when the contact line starts to move, then, according to our experiments, they have to be dependent on the flow in the bulk. Hence they would have the same properties as the surface tensions and could be formally incorporated into the latter.
