Problems related to light scattering on supercooled fluids to mode coupling theory

Pick RM, Cummins HZ, Bykhoskii AD, Dreyfus C, Lebon MJ: Problems related to light scattering on supercooled fluids to mode coupling theory. In Proceedings of the Workshop on Non-equilibrium Phenomena in Supercooled Fluids, Glasses and Amorphous Materials: 1995 Sept 25-29; Pisa. 1996, in press. Pick et al. show that the source of light scattering for most molecular liquids used in experimental tests of mode coupling theory is orientational, not density, fluctuations (consistent with evidence from thermal susceptibilities of orientational glass transitions), thus raising a warning flag, but also perhaps showing the wider applicability of mode coupling equations for more general random potential siuations (see [94]).
