We determine the relative number densities from the vapor pressure of the sample in the two experiments, measure the relative laser powers, and take the absorption cross section from our measured absorption spectrum for DMSO and from the literature [W. D. Taylor, T. D. Allston, M. J. Moscato, G. B. Fazekas, R. Kozlowski, and G. A. Takacs, Int. J. Chem. Kinet. 12, 231 (1980)] for nitromethane.
