After submission of our paper we found a similar excitation scheme in a paper by R. Blatt, J.I. Cirac and P. Zoller, Phys. Rev. A 52, 518 (1995). However, the authors ignore both laser phase diffusion and perturbations due to relaxation. Consequently, this idealized treatment yields trapping states as stationary ones, as they would apppear in an idealized version of the micromaser 8.
