Chemical differences in surface diffusion: si and ge adatoms at the (formula presented) step on the hydrogenated si(100) surface

    • We have checked the total-energy convergence vs the cutoff energy in the plane-wave basis set up to 30 Ry for the adsorption geometries on the H/Si(100) surface and for the elastic properties for (Formula presented) and found that the results of the 8 Ry cutoff energy agree well with the converged ones of the 30 Ry cutoff energy (detailed convergence tests are found in Ref. 10). We increase the cutoff energy to 10 Ry for a proper description of Ge adatoms (refer to Ref. 14
